[from the diary of Captain William F. Hunter, of Co. b., 97th Ohio]
Sept. 29th, ‘62
We were awaked, as
usual, at 3 A.M., & or-
dered into line; we
have had a standing
order, since the middle
of last week, to fall
in at 3 A.M. every
morning. A difficulty
arising to day, at the
“Galt House”, between
Gen’ls. Nelson & Davis,
the latter shot the
former, with a pistol,
killing him instantly.
Clear & warm today.
