[from the diary of Samuel Johnson of the 1st Massachuestts Independent Light Battery]

March 14th

Were turned out at six. A. M. It is
reported that we are to return to
Alexandria and ship for Fort
Monroe. and move on Richmond
from that point. At five P. M we
received orders to move back to A.
and at six were on the road. at
midnight we halted and encamped
at Annandale. The day was quiet
quite mild and Pleasant. but during
the night very rainy and cool.
