[from the diary of Jesse Calvin Spaulding, Co. F, 25th Massachustts, currently detailed to the Commissary Dept. on the Steamer “Admiral”

Last night I took a couple of
table leaves and laid them on five
stools and spread my blanket on them
and took my knapack[sic] for a pillow and
slept very well. It has been quite pleasant
to day. One of the 25th band was buried
today. No change of position. Read and
played checkers.
