1862 March 29 Camp Beard

[from the diary of Daniel D. Logan, younger brother of General Thomas M. Logan, and a Sergeant, Co. B, 1st Special Battalion (Rightor’s), Louisiana Infantry]

Camp Beard – Saturday Mch 29/62
Rose at six o’c – No Breakfast – drill
at 10 o’c on the 10th La. parade ground –
Went in search of provisions – with
Emmett. Got some oysters – which
we had steamed for dinner –
Spent the Evening with Norcum & Ross
cutting wood – Jim arrived this
Evening from Camp Rightor – The
Enemy are reported at Youngs Mills
today. Our Cavalry Cut off & took
six of their wagons – Rain this
afternoon – Had to go to bed at
dark – tent leaking & a good
prospect of a wet bed – Shreveport
Greys went on picket today night
Genl Magruder’s headquarters are
moved to Lees house today – he
issued an order to govern us in
the coming battle –
