1862 March 1 [Roanoke Island]

[from the diary of Jesse Calvin Spaulding, Co. F, 25th Massachusetts]
Saturday
March 1

Another pleasant day. On guard today
but by the blessing of God was
placed on a post where no one is
required at night. So Lieut Lawrence
who is officer of the guard told me
I could go to my quarters and stay till
to-morrow morning. Have enjoyed the day very well.
