forenoon. This afternoon W. Arthur arrive
-d brought letters from Pap and Mrs.
Campbell also one from Sarah Caldwell
inclosed in Paps also Stumps. Two from
Pap. Mostly clear, Remark Scammon taught
McClelland & Beauregard engineering at
west point. Mostly clear.

Eliakim Parker Scammon, 1816-1894, was Colonel of the 23rd Ohio. A West Point graduate he remained at the academy one year, 1837-1838, teaching mathematics. McClellan was not a cadet that year. Beauregard was.
